“I've seen God work through the relationships that are formed between mentors and students. It's incredible to watch a student who may be shy, withdrawn, or struggling begin to open up because someone consistently shows up for them month after month. I've seen students grow in confidence, become more engaged, and develop trust with their mentors. I've also seen God work through the volunteers themselves as they discover the impact they can have simply by being present and available. I've had mentors tell me at the beginning of the year that they weren't sure they were capable of mentoring a student, only to tell me at the end of the year that it was one of the most rewarding experiences they've ever had. Academy 4 isn't just transforming the lives of fourth graders, it's also shaping and encouraging the adults who invest in them. Even when challenges exist, God continues to use faithful relationships to bring encouragement, stability, and hope into the lives of both students and mentors.
Academy 4 at Bryson would not be what it is without the support of EVC. The majority of our mentors come directly from our church family, and their willingness to invest an hour each month has created opportunities for meaningful relationships with dozens of students. Beyond volunteers, EVC has consistently supported the ministry through prayer, encouragement, childcare for mentors, resources, and financial generosity. One especially meaningful example came last summer when Bryson experienced significant vandalism, leaving many classrooms damaged and teachers facing the loss of personal supplies and resources. Through the generosity of EVC, including funds raised by our children during VBS, we were able to provide gift cards to affected teachers to help replace some of what had been lost. It was a tangible expression of Christ's love and a reminder to our school that they are seen, valued, and supported by their community. Because of that partnership, we're able to serve more students, support our volunteers well, and maintain a strong presence on campus.
Looking ahead, I believe God is inviting us to deepen our impact by continuing to build strong mentor relationships and reaching even more students who need a caring adult in their corner. My hope is that every fourth grader would have their own mentor. As Academy 4 continues to grow, we need people who are willing to pray, serve, encourage, and step into mentoring relationships. EVC can continue to walk alongside this ministry by helping us recruit and equip mentors, praying for our students and school staff, and continuing to invest in the next generation right here in our community.
