WHY IT'S ALL ABOUT JESUS FOR Us
1. I'M A GOOD PERSON. ISN'T THAT ENOUGH?
All have sinned, which means even the best of us fall short of the standards of a holy, perfect God. Romans 3:10 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
So maybe you are a good person, but when we stand before God and his light shines on the whole of our lives, there might have been times when we did “good,” but before God, we are not righteous. Romans 3:23 – For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
Not only do we fall short of God’s perfect standard as individuals, but we were born with a nature that rebels against God. Romans 5:12 – When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.
2. OKAY, I KNOW I’M NOT PERFECT. IS THAT A BIG DEAL?
The wages of sin (the consequences of sin) is death. That is both physical death (we all die) AND spiritual death (eternal separation from God after we die physically). The price of sin is death, but Jesus paid the price for us. Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
3. JESUS PAID THE PRICE FOR MY SIN?
Just as it would be wrong for a judge to acquit a violent criminal with no punishment or sentence, so a just God could not let sin go unpunished. God’s love compelled Him to send his holy Son, Jesus, to live a sinless life and offer His life in our place, to pay the price for our sin. The one who never sinned accepted our sin and paid the price for us. Romans 5:8 – But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
4. HOW DO I RESPOND?
Believe it, say it, live it. If you admit that you have fallen short of God’s standard and deserve His judgment and believe that Jesus is God’s Son who came to earth, lived a perfect life, died in your place, and rose again…then say it! Tell God those things. Maybe something like, “I admit I am a sinner. Please forgive me. Jesus, come be the boss in my life. I will no longer live my life for myself, but I will learn what it means to live for and follow you.” Romans 10:9-10 – If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved
